Fred Unruh has been studying fine art at the Kunsthochschule Berlin Weißensee since 2019. During this time, he has worked with the tension of bodies in space. In Albrecht Schäfer's sculpture class, he initially explored an expression between installation, dance and video performance. He was able to base these first groups of works on the two-year Lucia Loeser scholarship and a semester abroad at the Ecole Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Marseille. It was during this time that he created his first paintings.
In his paintings, he now returns to a subject that had already occupied him during his first degree in sociology and psychology. It is about people, their bodies and inner conflicts. If the portraits are about bodies, they are also always about the embodiment of the soul.
For Fred Unruh, the painting process is like a mirror in which he seeks less the individual personality than a general facet of humanity that is acute in this painting.
