SELBSTSUCHE – Asche der Erinnerung traces the artistic and biographical journey of Iranian-German architect and artist Arjang (Fatholah Khamenei). Born in Tehran in 1946, his life has been shaped by political resistance, imprisonment, exile, migration and new beginnings.

At the heart of the exhibition is the ongoing search for identity, belonging and one’s own place in the world. Through paintings, drawings and sculptures, Arjang reflects on memory, self-discovery, love and human connection. Alongside works shaped by experiences of imprisonment, loss and displacement, his art also turns toward everyday life, encounters, nature, the universe and the recurring motif of the heart as a symbol of love, connection and self-reflection.

Presented on the occasion of the artist’s 80th birthday, the exhibition is both a retrospective view of an extraordinary life and a personal homage from his family.
