Costs and Funding

  • Which costs are covered?

    • Accommodation and workspaces are provided free of charge by Culterim. Travel, transportation, and living expenses must be covered by the participants.

Infrastructure, Equipment, and Accommodation

  • How are the bedrooms furnished?

  • Is there Wi-Fi?

    • @Haus Bergfriede: Yes

    • @Kraftwerk: No

  • Is there heating?

    • Yes.

  • How should I leave my room at the end of my stay?

    • The room should be cleaned (vacuumed and mopped) and returned undamaged. Please inform us directly about any damage.

  • Are all rooms the same size and equally furnished?

    • No, they vary in size and furnishings.

  • Can I choose my own room/studio?

    • Allocation is generally based on a “first come, first served” principle. Coordination and swapping between participants are welcome.

  • How is my studio equipped, and how should I leave it?​

    • Each studio has electricity and ceiling lighting, a table, and a chair.

    • It must be cleaned and tidied up at the end of your stay.

  • Can I lock my studio/room?

    • @Haus Bergfriede: Yes

    • @Kraftwerk: No, but the building is accessible only to us.

  • Is there a kitchen?

    • Yes, a shared, fully equipped kitchen.

  • Is there a washing machine?

    • Yes, a shared washing machine.

  • Is there electricity/water?

    • Yes, the buildings have electricity and water. We ask everyone to use them sparingly.

  • Is there a bathroom in the house?

    • Yes.

  • Is drinking water available?

    • Yes.

Living Conditions and Community

  • Do I have to cook and shop for myself?

    • Yes, there are shopping facilities in town.

  • Do I have to clean?

    • Yes, the common areas (hallways, kitchen, and living room) must be cleaned regularly by the participants.

  • Do I have to clean up immediately after cooking/eating?

    • Yes, everyone wants to find a clean space.

  • Are shared products used?

    • Yes, a basic supply is available. Maintaining this supply is the responsibility of the participants.

  • Can I bring my pet?

    • Yes, but please contact us in advance.

  • How do we deal with intolerant behavior?

    • We have a zero-tolerance policy toward intolerant behavior, harassment, racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and discrimination against people with disabilities. Please report such incidents to us directly.

  • Are there neighbors and noise regulations?

    • Yes, the rules of the respective location must be observed.

  • How many artists are in the residency?

    • A total of 4.

  • What language is spoken?

    • English is generally spoken.

  • Can I make noise all night?

    • No. All noise (including music and work-related sounds) should take place between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. and respect the surrounding area.

General Details and Organization

  • Is there transportation to the residency?

    • No.

  • Is there an introduction at the beginning of the residency?

    • Yes, there will be a meeting with important information.

  • When and how does the final exhibition take place?

    • There is an optional exhibition opportunity at sommer.frische.kunst. Works will be selected based on their curatorial suitability.

  • Can I receive visitors?

    • Day visitors are possible with prior notice. Overnight stays are only allowed in exceptional cases and by prior arrangement.

  • Is there an accompanying program?

    • Apart from the studio visit by Galerie Gegen & Lücke, there is no mandatory program. Participants are free to organize their time as they wish. The focus should be on independent artistic work.

  • Is someone from Culterim always present?

    • Someone from Culterim will be present for the welcome and for the studio visit by Galerie Gegen & Lücke.

  • Do I need to bring my own materials?

    • Yes, please obtain your materials in advance. There are no art supply stores nearby.

  • Can you help with visa applications?

    • We can issue an official invitation but cannot provide full support.

  • How does the selection process work?

    • After reviewing the applications, selections will be made in early March.
