Companions Act II + III
Culterim | Spaces | Rossmann
Companions unfolds in three acts to examine how humans have historically defined themselves through the production of an “Other,” casting living beings as symbols, specimens, tools, resources, and threats. Rather than treating the “Other” as an external opposite, the exhibition imagines companionship as a process of entanglement. Drawing on mythology, colonial history, robotics, and shadow play, three artists create hybrid bodies to recompose the terms of companionship and imagine more reciprocal worlds.
ACT II—Courting moths brush antennae. A cat-girl pins her opponent to the ground. The Devil takes tea among birds and beasts, bodies coiling into a golden trunk. In the midst of fecund ruins, the transformation has already begun.
ACT III—Follow the voice into the shadows, where phantom armatures dance in a karmic field. As the pillar begins to molt, twin stars crack open the threshold. No one performs alone in the theatre of companions; perhaps you have always belonged.
