Culterim | Spaces | Window
The exhibition at WINDOW vaguely explores the concept of miniature. All works presented engage with formal or conceptual aspects of miniaturization, while also questioning, expanding, or redefining the term through individual artistic positions and narratives.
Historically, the miniature derives from minium, a red pigment used in medieval manuscript illumination. Over time, it came to describe small-scale, highly detailed representations. But more than size alone, the miniature is defined by the concentration of meaning, form, and perception within a limited space.
In contemporary art, the miniature is understood less as a fixed format than as a relational phenomenon. It emerges through shifts in scale, context, and perspective. As a space for experimentation, it challenges perception and conventional measures.
Far from being a simple reduction of the large, the miniature is an independent aesthetic form that invites close attention and opens unexpected fields of meaning.
